Copyrights cover creative expression or “original works of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression”. Examples include literary works; musical works, including any accompanying words; dramatic works, including any accompanying music; pantomimes and choreographic works; pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works; motion pictures and other audiovisual works; sound recordings; and architectural works.
Although the copyright springs into existence from the time of creation of the work, it is highly advisable to file for copyright protection. You cannot bring a law suit against another until you have filed. Additionally, the amount of money you can sue for is adversely affected by filing later rather than sooner.
